Without a doubt the most important thing I've learned is to build and maintain genuine connections with team members, other colleagues on site and around the business. Taking the time to help others and treat people the right way will always help you make good decisions and more often than not means you'll also get support when you need it. A people manager in any industry should always treat their team members and colleagues with respect and engage with them as much as possible. We can all do our bit to create a people focused culture and in my experience this drives safety culture, operational performance and engagement with business initiatives.
